The Apulian and Western Greece coastlines are facing significant erosion impacts due to natural causes (extended fetches, stormy winds, high waves and strong currents) and man-induced causes (such as urban expansion, touristic development and single-purpose coastal and/or watershed infrastructures). Despite the Protocol on Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) in the Mediterranean signed in 2008, the problems remain, affecting people and ecosystems: although the ICZM approach and principles are valid in both countries, there is a further need to support ICZM implementation. Triton is based on a system of cross border actions which will lead the project partners to develop a model of ICZM between Apulia and Western Greece capable to contribute at achieving the overall objective of creating decision support tools for Integrated Coastal Management Zone at local and regional level
